Ann Gushurst has over two decades of experience in Family Law as a litigator, mediator and
collaborative attorney. Collaboration has long been Ann’s passion, and she was one of the
founding members of the Colorado group in 2000, and was the president of the CCDP in 2007.
Ann abandoned litigation by joined JAMS in 2020, but she has continued working in family law
as a mediator/ arbitrator/ and as a collaborative law facilitator. Several years ago, Ann became
interested in the intersection between civil rights and family law and was subsequently involved
in several cases that changed Colorado law, the most notable of which were two cases involving
same-sex rights: the case that ousted Colorado’s DOMA law and the second case in the United
States that found that a same-sex non-biological mother had legal status as a parent. Ms.
Gushurst remains very involved in Colorado’s legal community, continuing to serve on the
Family Law Executive Council for almost two decades, sitting on the DR Rules committee and
the GAL rule revision committee, and chairing the Unified Family Court committee. She has
lectured more than 50 times on such topics as parenting issues, court procedure, and the
intersection of constitutional rights and family law.
